The big Highlands Ranch news for 2026 is a hard one for a lot of families: the community's fireworks are canceled. HRCA and Douglas County made the call on May 14, citing drought and fire danger, and they kept it in place even after the county lifted fire restrictions on June 2, citing an abundance of caution. If the Civic Green show was your tradition, this is the year it breaks.

What is happening instead

HRCA is replacing the fireworks night with the Star-Spangled Birthday Bash, a free concert on Thursday, July 2 at Highland Heritage Regional Park (9651 S. Quebec St.). It starts at 6 p.m. Ragged Union opens with bluegrass from 6 to 7, and Jeff Goodwin and the Front Range Cowboys headline from 7:30 to 9. There are food trucks on site, and you should bring lawn chairs and your own games.

If you want fireworks

You will need to drive. The nearest shows are in Lone Tree and Castle Rock, both of which still launch fireworks around 9:30 p.m. on the 4th. And Highlands Ranch keeps its July 4 morning traditions: see the Independence Day Parade and 5K.
