New in Douglas County: An ER for Crystal Valley, Nova Glow Finally Picks a Date, a Parker Speakeasy for December, and the Ash Borer Has Arrived
Edition seven: AdventHealth is building a 23,600-square-foot ER and urgent care at Crystal Valley Parkway, the Juniper's Pilates studio names October 10, Black Rock Coffee opened on University, a speakeasy is coming to Parker on December 1, and the emerald ash borer has been confirmed in Parker, the first in the county.
Two weeks since edition six, and the news skews toward things being built rather than things opening, which is what late September looks like in a county that does most of its ribbon-cutting in spring. One real medical facility, three fitness and wellness openings, one speakeasy with a date, one road finished, and a beetle. Tips to hello@discoverdougco.com.
Crystal Valley gets an emergency room
The south end of Castle Rock is getting the kind of building that usually follows a decade of rooftops. AdventHealth broke ground the week of September 29, 2025, on a 23,622-square-foot facility at Crystal Valley Parkway and Plum Creek Boulevard that combines a freestanding emergency department and an urgent care under one roof, with primary care offices and shell space for future services on the second floor; the health system says the project brings more than 30 jobs and is targeting fall 2026. For the 112-home neighborhood now in its last round of neighborhood meetings (below) and the thousands already there, this cuts the drive to an ER from the Castle Rock Adventist campus on the north side to a few minutes. We will report hours and the trauma-level details when AdventHealth posts them.
Opened
Black Rock Coffee opened September 14 at 9401 S. University Blvd. in Highlands Ranch, the Oregon chain's drive-through coffee and "Fuel" energy-drink format. SereniTea Spa and Tea Lounge, a massage-and-tea concept at 9447 Park Meadows Dr. in Lone Tree, cut its ribbon with the Lone Tree City Council this month.
Dated, at last
Nova Glow Studio, the reformer and hot-mat Pilates studio in The Juniper on Mainstreet that we have carried as "August," then "fall," now has a grand opening: Saturday, October 10. BODYBAR Pilates, a reformer franchise, opens in Highlands Ranch on Monday, October 12. And Parker gets a speakeasy: The Summit Society is targeting December 1, per DougCo Social, which reports the Summit event space at The Parker Hotel on Mainstreet is being turned into it.
Built
The Town of Castle Rock finished widening Crowfoot Valley Road between Knobcone Drive and Macanta Boulevard: new turn lanes, sidewalks, bike lanes and a signal, on the stretch that Macanta's growth had turned into a daily merge fight. Separately, the county's Veterans Service Office moves Tuesday, September 29, from 301 Wilcox St. to 410 S. Wilcox St., Suite 101, in downtown Castle Rock.
On the agenda: a town center, and 112 homes one step behind it
The Castle Rock Planning Commission on October 8 hears an annexation and commercial proposal called RidgeView Town Center on 10.54 acres at 895 N. Ridge Road, which would put retail on the town's north edge near the Ridge Road interchange. The 112-home neighborhood on about 21 acres in Crystal Valley, in the same growth corridor as the new ER, is a step earlier: the town has set the fourth of four neighborhood meetings on the Crystal Valley Ranch single-family site development plan for Monday, October 5, 6 to 7 PM, at the Philip and Jerry Miller Library, 100 S. Wilcox St., before it goes to the Planning Commission and Town Council. Neither is approved; both are the kind of item that gets approved quietly if nobody shows up.
The beetle
The emerald ash borer has been confirmed in Parker, the first documented case in Douglas County, per a DougCo Social report of a July confirmation. If you have an ash in your yard (green and white ash were planted by the thousand in the county's older subdivisions), the choice is treat every two to three years or plan the replacement; untreated ash trees in infested areas generally die within a few years. Parker is treating its own: Town Forester Erik Stadsvold told CBS Colorado on August 4 he was already injecting ash trees in Parker's parks with emamectin benzoate, at about $200 a tree, repeated every two years. Castle Rock's emerald ash borer page tells homeowners to decide between removing and treating and to hire applicators certified by the Colorado Department of Agriculture; it describes no town program for public trees.
The still-waiting list, kept honest
- Cask and Trotter (The Juniper, Parker): the last local update we can verify still says end of year.
- Thai Wow (794 S. Perry St., Castle Rock): the restaurant's own site still says coming soon with ordering off. We found third-party pages projecting November; we do not trust them and neither should you.
- GQue BBQ (18424 Cottonwood Dr., Parker): under construction, end of 2026.
- Stumpy's Pizza: no new address announced since the Wilcox Street closing.
- The Hideaway (600 Jerry St., Castle Rock): still closed after the May fires; no rebuild date.
- Los Dos Potrillos (6372 Promenade Pkwy., Castle Rock): the 7,000-square-foot restaurant and cerveceria across from the Outlets has been under construction since 2023. We have no 2026 update and are adding it to the list until someone gives us one.
- Vehicle Vault (Parker): as of September 29 the museum's ticket page shows a single admission listing, Friday, October 2, and no closing notice. Go if you were going to.
Next edition around October 12. Previous: edition six.
