The take

A flat, paved Cherry Creek Trail access and natural area in Parker, with an arboretum, a kids' Story Walk, and miles of easy greenway. The mellow family-and-bike option, not a mountain hike.

Why it's here

McCabe Meadows is a roughly six-acre park and natural area on the west side of Parker Road that works as a trailhead onto the Cherry Creek Regional Trail, the paved greenway that runs straight through the property along the creek. It is the mellow, accessible end of the Douglas County trail spectrum: flat, paved, and open to every fitness level, the opposite of the county's mesa climbs.

The Cherry Creek Regional Trail here is a ten-foot-wide concrete path running about eight miles from Norton Farms Open Space in the north to Stroh Ranch Park in the south, with an adjacent unpaved equestrian trail alongside. From McCabe Meadows you simply pick a direction and a distance and do an out-and-back, which makes it ideal for a casual walk, a jog, or an easy family bike ride. E-bikes are explicitly allowed, as are equestrians on the dirt trail.

The park itself is more than a parking lot. It holds the Parker Arboretum, a Story Walk Trail with sixteen signs displaying the pages of a children's book, a fitness circuit, the Angel Memorial Garden, and a shade structure with tables, plus restrooms and dog stations at the trailhead. Dogs are welcome on leash. It is a genuinely good family stop, not just a trail access point.

Be clear about what it is: a flat paved creekside greenway and neighborhood park, not a mountain hike. There is no elevation, no summit, and a suburban rather than backcountry feel given how close it sits to Parker Road. But for an easy walk, a kid-friendly outing, a stroller, or a relaxed bike ride along Cherry Creek, McCabe Meadows is one of the most useful trail accesses in Parker.
