The take

The 4,000-capacity outdoor amphitheater at Philip S. Miller Park in Castle Rock. Free Wednesday concert series June through August. Saturday-night ticketed shows for the bigger acts. The town's actual best free thing.

Why it's here

The Philip S. Miller Park Amphitheater sits in the bowl below the 200-step Challenge Hill on the south side of Castle Rock. The Town runs the Castle Rock Summer Concert Series here Wednesday evenings June through August, free to attend, food trucks on site, bring-a-chair format, and the lineup leans country, Americana, and Coloradan rock. The 2026 series marks the 10th anniversary year. The headline act for 2026 is Jackson Dean on Saturday, July 18, on a separate ticketed Saturday show that pulls a bigger crowd than the free Wednesdays.

The room is the right size for the format. 4,000 capacity, sloped lawn, real sight lines from anywhere on the grass, and a structurally appropriate stage with house sound. The free Wednesday shows fill the front lawn by 6:30pm for headlining acts; arrive by 5pm if you want a spot inside the closer rings. Strollers and chairs are fine, dogs are not (the park policy is no dogs at amphitheater events). Coolers without alcohol are allowed; the food trucks rotate weekly and almost always include at least one pizza, one BBQ, and one taco option. Cash and card both work at most trucks but a few are still cash-only.

The park itself wraps the amphitheater. Challenge Hill (the 200-step staircase that gains 178 feet) sits a short walk uphill from the stage, and the regulars are the people who run the hill at 5pm, then come down to the show. The park's playgrounds, splash pad, and picnic shelters are all walking distance. The full amphitheater calendar drops mid-May each year on the Town of Castle Rock site; the same calendar shows the Movies in the Park Friday-night film series that runs adjacent to the concert series.

For the ticketed Saturday acts (Jackson Dean July 18, plus the rest of the bigger 2026 lineup as it's announced), tickets release in early May; the front-row pit and reserved seating sell out within ten days of release. The lawn ticket usually stays available later. We recommend the lawn over reserved unless you know the act and want to be on the rail.

Know before you go

Go for
  • Free Wednesday-night summer concerts June through August
  • Ticketed Saturday headliners (Jackson Dean July 18, 2026)
  • Pre-show Challenge Hill workout (200 steps, real cardio, free)
  • Family-friendly evening with food trucks and a lawn
Timing

Wednesday-night free shows: gates effectively open at 5pm; headliner sets 7-9pm. Saturday ticketed shows: gates open 5:30pm, opener 6:30pm, headliner 8pm. Concert season runs early June through late August. The lawn fills earlier on country and Americana acts than on rock.

Pro tip

Bring a low chair (under 18 inches) and stake a spot in the closer rings before the opener. The high-back camp chairs are not allowed inside the chair-only zone (front of lawn). A blanket also works if you came with a partner. The food trucks queue up fast at intermission; eat before the headliner takes the stage.

Skip / heads up

No dogs at amphitheater events; if you brought one, the parking lot loop trail is the alternative. The lawn slopes away from the stage; the back third has compromised sight lines and you'll be watching the screen as much as the band. Parking fills the main lot by 6pm Wednesday and 5:30pm Saturday; the overflow lot adds a 10-minute walk uphill.

Parking

Free parking in the main Philip S. Miller Park lot off Plum Creek Parkway. Overflow on Mitchell Gulch Drive. No parking on the dirt access roads; the Town tickets these.
