Stargazing Party at Sandstone Ranch

Douglas County Open Space's night-sky party at Sandstone Ranch. Set up your telescope while it is still light, hear a talk as it gets dark, then observe; the patio has power outlets, and anyone with a scope or binoculars is asked to share views. The gate opens for check-in at 6:45 p.m. and closes promptly at 8:15, and because this part of the ranch is guided access only, nobody is admitted after that. Bring food, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks (the Gathering Place house has a kitchen and an indoor restroom), pack out your trash, dress in layers, and leave dogs at home. Registration is through the Denver Astronomical Society's members site and each person in your party registers separately; the guest list is emailed an address, driving directions and a waiver before the event. It is a one-night event: if Friday's weather fails, the county moves it to Saturday, Nov. 7.
